Woman killed, newlywed hurt in parcel bomb explosion in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: An elderly woman was killed and a newlywed couple sustained critical injuries after a gift packet exploded while opening at Patnagarh in Odisha’s Bolangir district on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Debamani Sahoo. The injured are bride Rina Sahoo and bridegroom Soumya Sekhar Sahoo.

Sources said Soumya married Rina on February 18 and the reception party was on Thursday. While Soumya, Rani and Debamani were opening the gifts today, one of the parcels exploded critically injuring the three.

While Debamani succumbed on the way to the hospital, Soumya and Rina were admitted to the Bolangir District Hospital (DHH).

Later, Soumya was referred to IGH Hospital in Rourkela after his condition deteriorated.

On being informed, police rushed the spot and started an investigation into the parcel bomb explosion. A scientific team have also rushed the spot to probe into the matter.
