Bijepur by-poll results: BJD’s Rita Sahu leading

Bargarh: Counting for Odisha’s Bijepur Assembly seat has started on Wednesday. BJD candidate Rita Sahu has surged ahead in the 20th round of counting. She is leading towards a massive victory in the Bijepur by-poll.

BJP candidate Ashok Panigrahi is trailing behind BJD.

Nearly 21 rounds of counting are likely to be conducted.

The constituency is witnessing a triangular contest between ruling BJD, BJP and Congress. A total of 13 candidates are in the fray.

BJD president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik thanked Bijepur voters for the massive victory.

He said a victory by more than 40000 votes will have an impact on future elections.

*Total votes secured after 20th Round. BJP- 59896, Cong- 10153, BJD- 101435, NOTA- 1665. BJD leads by 41593 votes

*Total votes secured after 19th Round. BJP- 57476, Cong- 8934, BJD- 97724 & NOTA- 1568. BJD’s lead margin crossed 40k votes

*The by-poll to Bijepur Assembly constituency was necessitated following the death of Congress MLA Subal Sahu.

* BJD leads by 37138 votes after 17th Round, Total votes secured: BJD- 88929, BJP- 51791, Cong- 7213, NOTA-1395

* Total votes secured after 16th Round: BJD- 84969, BJP- 48182, Cong- 6451, & NOTA- 1316; BJD leads by 36787 votes

* Tally after 15th round counting–  BJD’s Rita Sahu (81488 votes), BJP‘s Ashok Panigrahi (45190 votes), Congress‘ Pranaya Sahu (4608 votes)
