Customers ransack Aircel office in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Hundreds  of Aircel customers, who are struggling without mobile connectivity for last few days, on Monday ransacked the Aircel office located at the Fortune Tower near Jaydev Vihar here.

They alleged that they were unable to port out of the telecom service provider, which is facing several challenges for the last few months.

“Though we have desperately tried to port the numbers to other telecom operators, we are unable to do the same,” said one of the protestors.

Another protestor said that the traders and businessmen struggled the most as they could not make payments without the One Time Passwords (OTPs).

There was a network issue across Odisha and many users were neither able to make calls nor access the internet. They even were unable to port their number to other operators.

Sources said telecom regulatory body TRAI has issued a directive asking Aircel to generate Unique Port Code (UPC) to facilitate mobile number portability (MNP).

Notably, the company has already shut down its services in Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh (West).
