Banbira attack: BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra arrested


Bhubaneswar: Bargarh Police on Thursday arrested senior BJP leader and former minister Jayanarayan Mishra in connection with a firing incident at Sohela in which a BJD worker had died.

Apart from Mishra, the police also arrested another accused Sibu Diwan. So far, eight persons have been arrested in the incident.

A police team led by Padampur SDPO Laxmi Narayan Panda raided Mishra’s house here this morning and took him under custody for questioning. He was later arrested.

A police team led by Padmapur Sub Divisional Police Officer along with local police conducted raids and arrested the two, according to reports.

In may be noted that some miscreants had attacked Minister Sushant Singh’s brother Subrat Singh, his driver Dileswar Sahu and two other associates at Banabira village under Sohela block of Bargarh district on February 22 night, two days before Bijepur by-election held on February 24.

The driver, Dileswar Sahu, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the SCB Medical College and Hospital on February 23 nights.

Earlier, the police had made some arrests and interrogated them.

An FIR was lodged against Mishra in the firing incident.

Meanwhile, politics has started over the arrest of Jaynarayan Mishra.

While Minister Sushant Singh said Mishra is the prime accused in the Banbira attack, state BJP president Basanta Panda said the state government is deliberately dragging the BJP leader into the case.
