Uproar in Odisha Assembly over Lokayukta appointment

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly on Monday witnessed repeated adjournments after Congress members created a ruckus over the delay in appointment of Lokayukta.

Speaker PK Amat first adjourned the House from 11.43 to 12.30 pm as Opposition Congress members went into the well demanding the appointment of Lokayukta at the earliest.

When the House reassembled at 12.30 pm, Congress members created ruckus forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House again till 3 pm.

Soon after the Question Hour ended, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra raised the Lokayukta issue and slammed the State Government for not appointing a Lokayukta.

He said the State Government, though boasted of having passed the State Lokayukta Act first in the country, has failed to appoint a Lokayukta when three years have already been passed since the President gave his nod to the new Act in 2015.

“I demand that the Speaker give a ruling asking the Chief Minister inform the House as to when his Government will appoint the Lokayukta,” insisted Mishra.
