Student unrest continues in Central University of Orissa

Koraput: Student unrest continued on the campus of the Central University of Orissa here with agitating students staging a demonstration on Thursday.

They also barged into Vice-Chancellor Sachidananda Mohanty’s chamber demanding fulfilment of the 60-point charter of demands.

The fresh violence occurred two days after the sine die, imposed by the university authorities on March 15, was lifted.

Sources said as the VC did not come near to the agitating student, the latter barged into the administrative block and then into the VC’s chamber.

The university was closed sine die on March 15 following agitation by students seeking fulfillment of their 60-point charter of demands, including filling up of teachers’ vacancy, setting up of more departments, instruments for laboratory, more books for library, upgradation in hostel infrastructure, free wifi facility, auditorium and ATM facility in the campus.

The sine die was lifted on April 2 and the classes commenced the next day. But the fresh violence has put the university authorities in a fix.
