Sambalpur: A man hacked his wife to death and attacked mother-in-law and his two nieces on a family court premises in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Monday.
All of them were initially admitted to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla, where the woman succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
The accused identified as Ramesh Kumbhar of Sindurapanka has been arrested by police.
He is being interrogated, police said.
According to reports, wife Sanjita Choudhury had come to the family court to settle a family feud with her husband. She was accompanied by her nieces and mother.
Her husband barged into the court premises in a fit of rage and went berserk. He hacked them with a dagger leaving all of them critically injured.
Some relatives rescued them and admitted to district headquarters hospital. Sanjita was shifted to Burla as her condition deteriorated. However, she succumbed to injuries there.
Sources said Ramesh had eloped with Sanjita and spent around three months with her. Later, a feud ensued between the two following which Sanjita had left him and returned to her paternal house.
Ramesh filed a petition in family court to settle the dispute. The court had issued a notice to the family members of the woman for appearance. Sanjita had come to appear in the court for hearing today.
