Patnagarh parcel bomb explosion mastermind Punjilal arrested: DGP

Bhubaneswar: Jyoti Bikash College English Lecturer Punjilal Meher, the mastermind in the Patnagarh parcel bomb explosion incident, has been arrested by the Crime Branch.

Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma informed that Punjilal Meher is the mastermind in the Patnagarh parcel bomb explosion incident and he has been arrested by the Crime Branch.

Notably, two persons, techie Soumya Sekhar Sahu and his grandmother Jenamani had been killed and Soumya’s wife Reemarani was critically injured in the incident occurred at their house at Brahmapur in Patnagarh on February 23, 2018. The gift parcel was exploded while being opened by the newlywed couple Soumya and Reema.

The CB team had been interrogating Punjilal for the last two days. Punjilal had lost his job of Principal-in-charge after Soumya’s mother Sanjukta Sahoo joined as Principal on the seniority basis. Punjilal was reportedly reluctant to quit the job. After he was dethroned, enmity sprouted in him against Sanjukta.

During raids, the CB sleuths had found explosives and important papers from a house of Punjilal. Punjilal had reportedly prepared bombs with gaining knowledge from internet sources. The officials are still interrogating some relatives of Punjilal, according to the reports.
