3 killed in elephant attack in Dhenkanal, Nuapada


Dhenkanal: At least three persons were killed in two separate incidents of elephant attack in Odisha’s Dhenkanal and Nuapada districts on Tuesday.

Two persons were trampled by a herd of elephants in Dihadola forest close to IGIT Sarang under Mahabirod Forest Range in Dhenkanal.

Sources said three inmates of Khandanal Ashram had gone to bathe in a nearby river in the wee hours today when they came face to face with a herd of wild elephants.

While one of them managed to escape, two others were trampled to death by the wild pachyderms, said sources.

Meanwhile, forest officials and Parjang police reached the spot and recovered the bodies. Post-mortem of the two deceased was conducted at Parjang community hospital.

On the other hand, a farmer was trampled to death by 6-7 elephants at Karangabhatta village in Komna area of Nuapada district this morning while he had gone to his farmland. The deceased was identified as Sahadev Parabhuey.
