Odish seeks restoration of Bhubaneswar-Bangkok flight by Air India

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday wrote to Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu to restore Air India flight services from Bhubaneswar-Bangkok and Bhubaneshwar-Bengaluru.

The two flight services of Air India have been suspended recently.

The Chief Minister also urged to explore the possibility to start international operations from Bhubaneswar to other South East Asian countries considering the immense potential in these routes.

The Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneswar got the international tag on 30th October 2010. However, the international flight from Bhubaneswar to Bangkok by Air India was flagged off only on 10th December 2017.

“It was expected that Air India would subsequently expand its operations to other destinations like Singapore, Indonesia, Sri Lanka etc. But, the abrupt suspension of the existing operations has been a severe jolt to the Aviation and Tourism sector in the state,” said the Chief Minister.

He said the withdrawal of the domestic flight between Bengaluru and Bhubaneswar has come as a setback for the IT industry in the state.
