Freedom fighter Goura Chandra Mohapatra passes away at 104


Bhubaneswar: Eminent freedom fighter Goura Chandra Mohapatra passed away at the age of 104 at Bhadrak district headquarters hospital on Tuesday.

He is survived by wife Mira Devi, nine sons and four daughters, said sources.

Goura Chandra Mohapatra was the son of Kanta Kabi Laxmikant Mohapatra.  He was the youngest prisoner of Brahmapur jail in 1942.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of the veteran freedom fighter. “As a true Gandhian, he has dedicated his entire life for the promotion of Gandhian values and dedicated himself for social upliftment. In his death, we lost one of the last pillars of the freedom movement,” said the Chief Minister.

He conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
