Pradhan requests Odisha CM to allocate land for creation of Paika Bidroha Smruti


Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has requested Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to expedite the land allocation process for creation of Paika Bidroha Smruti on the foothills of Barunei Mountains, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

“I sincerely urge you to look into the matter to expedite the process of allotment of land for the creation of Paika Bidroha Smruti on the foothills of Barunei Mountains,” said Pradhan.

The Minister informed that Union Culture Minister had requested for land measuring about 50 acres to be made available for construction of a memorial on the foothills of Barunei Mountains in memory of Paika Rebellion.

He said the Government of India recently commemorated 200 years of Paika Rebellion with a series of events in Delhi and abroad.

Plans to unveil a Paika commemorative stamp and coin are underway, he added.

Pradhan said he had personally requested the Chief Minister for expediting the process of land allotment to create a permanent Paika Bidroha Smruti on the foothills of Barunei Mountains- the battleground of the Paika Bidroha.

“As the movement is an integral part of the pride of Odisha, it shall be the centre of attraction and the source of great Inspiration for posterity to remember the great heroes of the rebellion,” said the Petroleum Minister.

“The venue shall honour the heroes of the Paika Rebellion and other freedom fighters from Odisha. A unique museum and audio-visual son-et-Lumiere show depicting the life and times of Buxi Jagabandhu and Paika Rebellion are proposed to be the attractions of the memorial,” he added.

It is pertinent to mention that both the Central Government and Indian Oil Foundation have mode adequate provision towards commemoration of the event.
