Jharsuguda: Former Congress leader and Jharsuguda MLA Naba Das formally joined the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) here on Thursday.
Das joined BJD at a public meeting here in the presence of Chief Minister and party president Naveen Patnaik.
Das had resigned from the primary membership of the Congress party and announced to join the BJD on January 16.
In his resignation letter addressed to All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi, Das had mentioned that people and voters of his area want him to contest the upcoming election from BJD as they want the development of the area.
Naba Das has decided to resign from the membership of Odisha Legislative Assembly. He has sent a letter to Speaker Pradeep Amat expressing to resign from the MLA post.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik attacked the NDA government at Centre for failing to carry out development works in Odisha.
“Despite
inauguration of Veer Surendra Sai Airport at Jharsuguda, there are no flight
operations. Nothing has been done to revise coal royalty since 2015, instead we
have only got pollution. We won’t tolerate Centre’s negligence anymore,” said
the Chief Minister.
