Odisha records 73.76% polling in first phase


Bhubaneswar: The first-phase polling for four Parliamentary constituencies and 28 Assembly segments recorded a voter turnout of 73.76 per cent, said Chief Election Officer Surendra Kumar on Friday.

Kumar said there was delay in calculating the final voter turnout as polling continued at some booths till midnight on Thursday.

The female voters have outnumbered the male voters in the polling. While the male polling per cent was 73.09, the female voter turnout was 74.43 per cent and others was 11.25 per cent.

The highest percentage of polling was registered in Maoist-infested Nabarangpur Lok Sabha seat.

“Nabarangpur recorded the highest voter turnout of 78.89% in parliamentary constituency followed by Kalahandi and Koraput with 75.82% and 74.77% respectively in first phase. The voting percentage of 65.57% was recorded in Berhampur Lok Sabha segment ,”  said the CEO.

Kumar further informed that there will be re-polling in two booths, one in Malkangiri and the other in Berhampur.
