Pinaki Mishra is richest among 109 crorepati candidates in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: BJD’s Puri Lok Sabha candidate Pinaki Mishra is the richest among the candidates contesting the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha in the third phase, said a report on Saturday.

According to the Odisha Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report, as many as 119 candidates contesting the polls are crorepatis.

Six Lok Sabha seats-Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Puri and Bhubaneswar-and 42 Assembly segments are going to polls in the third phase on April 23.

While 16 Lok Sabha candidates have assets worth more than Rs 1 crore, 103 Assembly candidates are crorepatis.

Pinaki Mishra, a three-time parliamentarian and noted Supreme Court lawyer, has assets worth over Rs 117 crore.

BJP’s Sambalpur Lok Sabha candidate Nitesh Ganga Deb’s has assets worth over Rs 26 crore while Congress Dhenkanal Lok Sabha candidate K. P. Singhdeo stood at third spot with assets worth over Rs 15 crore.

Similarly, out of 354 candidates analysed by the ADR and Odisha Election Watch, 103 are declared crorepatis in Odisha.

Congress MLA candidate for Baramba Bobby Mohanty is the richest with total assets worth over Rs 106 crore.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik, who is contesting from Ghasipura owns assets worth over Rs 60 crore.

Srimanta Kumar Tripathy, Independent candidate from Champua Assembly seat, has declared his total assets worth over Rs 46 crore.
