29 died due to cyclone Fani in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: As many as 29 people have died in Odisha after cyclone Fani hit the state on Friday, said an official on Sunday.

While 21 people died in Puri, the worst-affected district, and the rest eight died in other places, said chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.

While thousands of trees were uprooted and houses are damaged, the cyclone also damaged the electricity and tele communication in the affected areas.

Preliminary reports estimate that the energy sector alone suffered worth Rs 1200 core while the cost could rise after a detail assessment, said Energy secretary Hemant Sharma.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said 70% of water connection in Puri and 40% in Bhubaneswar have already been restored.
