Dutee Chand admits being in same-sex relationship

Bhubaneswar: Ace sprinter Dutee Chand on Sunday said she is in a same-sex relationship with a girl from her hometown in Odisha’s Jajpur district.

Chand belongs to Chaka Gopalpur village in Jajpur district.

“I am above 18 and have not committed any crime. As of now there is no plan for marriage but will do it as per Odia tradition,” said Dutee.

She said the Supreme Court of India has also struck down the Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code last year allowing same-sex relationship.

Dutee is currently preparing to compete in the World Championships after which she will start her training for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
