New Delhi: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release Rs 5,000 crore assistance for the restoration work in the aftermath of cyclone Fani.

He also sought 5 lakh pucca houses for the affected people.

Patnaik met Modi at the latter’s official residence here.

“I have just met the Prime Minister. I congratulated him on his electoral victory. I also requested him for special category status for Odisha. As you all know, we have been hit by recent Cyclone FANI which has done a great deal of damage. I asked for Rs 5000 crore and 5 lakh pucca houses for the affected people,” said the Chief Minister.

“I also asked for the revision of coal royalty which hasn’t been done for a number of years… that will give us a lot of revenue,” he said.

He also stated that there was no dialogue regarding the upcoming Union Budget session and Odisha joining Centre’s Ayushman Bharat healthcare scheme.
