Odisha govt asks collectors to remain alert for possible flood


Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday asked all district collectors to remain alert for possible flood situation as the IMD predicts heavy rainfall under the influence of a low pressure formed over the Bay of Bengal.

IMD sources indicate that a low pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 24 hours which may conentrate into a depression during subsequent 48 hours.

Under its influence, enhanced rainfall activity is very likely over the district of Odisha.

.In association with this, conditions are likely to become favourable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of central India and some more parts of West & northwest India during July 1 to 3.

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur and Cuttack on June 29.

On June 30, heavy to very heavy rainfall to occur at few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Kendrapara.

Besides, heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Kandhamal and Malkangiri.
