833 lecturers selected, 299 received appointment in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday handed over placement order to the newly recruited lecturers of the Higher Education Department. 

As many as 299 lecturers received placement orders from a total selected 833. The placement process will be completed by November. All the lecturers will be appointed in aided colleges.

Speaking on the occasion at a function at Jayadev Bhawan,  the Chief Minister said, “At the outset, I congratulate all the newly recruited   Lecturers and wish them all the best in their career.

The profession of teaching carries highest respect in society. In a way, teachers lay the paths to the future of our society. They encourage imagination, critical thinking, and creativity.” 

The socio-economic value of education can be realized by dedicated and committed teachers. While they can make their students employable, they also can provide proper perspectives of life to understand society, grow with it and enrich it, he added.

Quoting Gandhiji, the Chief Minister said, “By education, I mean an all-round drawing of the best in child and man in body, mind and spirit.” 

So, there is a need to discover and realize the best of human values within us, and teachers in society are best positioned to realize it, Patnaik said.

“My Government has been making sincere efforts to improve quality of education. We are establishing Centres of Excellence in universities with research funds for young educators. Our focus is on strengthening research capacity in discipline that is relevant to socio-economic development of Odisha,” he informed. 

“Apart from various scholarships for students in need, Career Counseling Cells, Civil Service Coaching Centres are also being opened.  We are also making efforts to speed up process to open an Odia University for preservation and promotion of Odia language,” he added.

“I am glad that the Higher Education Department has completed selection process for 833 teachers in aided colleges, and 299 teachers are receiving their appointment letters today. I congratulate all of you once again,” said the Chief Minister.

Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo and Higher Education Secretary Saswat Mishra also spoke on the occasion.  Two selected lecturers spoke about their future career as teachers.
