Ayodhya verdict: Temple at disputed land

New Delhi: In a historic verdict, the Supreme Court on Saturday decided unanimously that Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas would get the disputed land in Ayodhya for building a temple.

Delivering the verdict in the Ram Janmabhoomi–Babri Masjid land dispute in Ayodhya, the court also ordered that 5 acres of alternative land would be given elsewhere in Ayodhya to build a mosque.

The apex court ordered that Central Government within 3-4 months formulate a scheme for setting up of trust and hand over the disputed site to it for construction of temple at the site.

It said a suitable alternative plot of land measuring 5 acres at Ayodhya will be given to Sunni Wakf Board.

With this, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi put an end to the more than a century-old dispute that has torn the social fabric of the nation.

Meanwhile, thousands of paramilitary force and police personnel have been deployed in Ayodhya, where the Babri Masjid mosque was razed in 1992.
