Pay electricity dues by Jan 15 or face disconnection: CESU


Bhubaneswar: Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) on Tuesday asked its consumers to pay their outstanding electricity dues by January 15, 2020, or face disconnection.

CESU Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Arun Bothra said the cumulative pending electricity bill of regular consumers has touched Rs 1,971 crore.

“SMSes will be sent to consumers to clear their pending bills by Jan 15, 2020, failing which power supply to their homes/offices/business establishments will be disconnected,” said Bothra.

CESU will intensify its drive from January 16 to disconnect the power connection of those who have failed to clear the dues, said Bothra.

As many as seven lakh consumers have not paid their electricity bills. Of them, 92% are domestic consumers and around Rs 1,023 crore are yet to be recovered from them.

Dues over Rs 50,000 amounting to Rs 691 crore are pending with 58,548 consumers. This apart, 1.04 lakh consumers have not paid electricity bills for the past two years.
