Mandatory to link PAN-Aadhaar by Dec 31: IT Dept

New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has said that it will be mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar by December 31, 2019.

The tax department has maintained that Aadhaar-PAN linking is mandatory for those filing an Income Tax Return (ITR).

Earlier, the last date for linking was fixed on September 30. Later, the deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar was extended to December 31 by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) through an order issued in September this year.

Aadhaar is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to a resident of India. Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a 10-digit alphanumeric number allotted by the I-T Department to a person, firm or entity.
