Odisha to seek Centre’s support for tourism growth: Minister

Konark: The Odisha government will seek the support of Union Government in formulating a policy that will enable cross-flow of tourists among eastern Indian states, said state Tourism Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi on Thursday.

“It would be wonderful if tourists visiting Andhra Pradesh or West Bengal to have a look at our beautiful state and vice versa. A comprehensive package must be formulated in this regard and therefore, the support of Central Government is needed,” Panigrahi said.

He was addressing at the inaugural ceremony of National Tourism Conference, organized in association with FICCI here at the Eco Retreat tourism festival.

The minister said the state government is planning a second round of tourism conference at Konark towards the end of this year where more participation of neighbouring states is expected.

In the event, tourism minister from Gujarat Vasanbhai Ahir participated and lauded the efforts of Odisha government for promoting tourism.

He said the state has great potential and can use marketing to promote the tourism potential.

Houseboats, More Eco Retreats

The Odisha government has organized a tent city at Konark beach to attract visitors. It has been organizing the event for the past one month. Encouraged by its success, the state tourism department has plans to replicate more such facilities at various locations of the state, possibly at Puri and Gopalpur.

The tourism department has also plans for introducing Houseboat structures in regional water bodies to attract more tourists. The detailed plans for it would be unveiled soon, said Vishal Dev, secretary for tourism, sports and youth services with the state government at the event.

Puri a symbol for Peace: Governor Lal

The temple of Jagannath embodies the heart of the Universe and therefore conveys the message of peace to everyone.

“Therefore, leaders of all faiths, as well as heads of all states, must visit Puri to get a feel of peace as at Puri one can realize the beautiful dance of Lord Jagannath,” said Prof. Ganeshi Lal, Governor of Odisha, emphasizing the importance of Puri to establish world peace while the planet is at turmoil in various continents.

He also thanked the Chief Minister and other administrators of the state government for offering a divine pleasure opportunity to incoming visitors.

Among others, OTDC chairperson Shreemayee Mishra and Sachin Ramsaran Jadhav, Director of Tourism with the state government also share their thoughts on the state of tourism in Odisha.
