Coronavirus scare: ECoR witnesses over 1 lakh ticket cancellation


Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Tuesday said more than one lakh tickets have been cancelled in past six days.

The ECoR has witnessed a major fall in passengers with lot of cancellation of train tickets.

In last six days, ECoR saw cancellation of more than one lakh tickets which 67% more than the cancellation during this period last year, said a press statement.

Across all the railway divisions, train ticket cancellation percentage has gone up by 80%.

Five pairs of special trains running from various places over ECoR have been cancelled due to less patronization.

“More number of trains may be cancelled, if required. Regular analysis of passenger ticket bookings is being done. As and when required, decision on cancelling more trains will be taken,” the statement said.

Blankets and curtains have been removed from originating trains from ECoR depots at Bhubaneswar, Puri, Sambalpur and Visakhapatnam.

“Passengers may like to get their own shawls and bed sheets if they like. They may use the ones provided by railways or may use their own bedroll as per their wish,” it said.
