Bhubaneswar: Online sale of liquor in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar will begin from today, said an Excise department official.
He said the issues of Cuttack Foreign Liquor Owners’ Association and Khurda Foreign Liquor Owners’ Association has been resolved.
Sale of online liquor will begin in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar from Monday, said the official.
Cuttack district Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani said the home delivery of liquor will begin in the district from Monday morning.
Following a meeting with the Cuttack Liquor Traders’ Association, it has been decided that the liquor shops will start taking online orders from Monday morning, said Chayani.
Consumers can place their orders online between 7 am to 1 pm and receive the ordered liquor between 1 pm and 6 pm.
The Odisha government has allowed home delivery of liquor from Sunday. However, not a single delivery of liquor was witnessed across the state as liquor shop owners are reluctant to facilitate delivery.
They are demanding offline delivery along with online delivery of liquor in Odisha.
Notably, the state government has not allowed the shop owners to sell liquor on their premises.
The government had said that the consumer can place an order, over phone, through SMS, WhatsApp, email or through online platforms and the delivery would be made in six hours.
The owners will put on display their phone and WhatsApp numbers in front of their shops and tie-up with the food aggregators Zomato and Swiggy for delivery of liquor.
