Bijepur by-poll date likely after Jan 20

By-election to Jharsuguda to be held on May 10


The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced the by-election date for Odisha’s Jharsuguda Assembly Constituency. According to the ECI, the by-poll will be held on May 10.

The ECI informed that the Gazette notification for by-election will be issued on April 13. The last for nomination filing is April 20 and the scrutiny of the nominations will be conducted on April 21.

Similarly, the candidates can withdraw their papers before April 24. The Counting of the vote will be done on May 13 and the election will be completed by May 15.

It may be noted that the by-poll to the assembly constituency was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Naba Kishore Das. The then Health Minister was killed by a police assistant sub-inspection in Brajarajnagar on January 29. He was declared dead in a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
