Mumbai: Shikhar Dhawan has officially announced his retirement from international cricket. The 38-year-old left-handed batsman shared the news through an emotional message on social media, revealing his decision to step away from all forms of international and domestic cricket.
Although Dhawan is retiring from playing for India, he hinted at continuing his career in league cricket, particularly in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dhawan last represented India in an ODI against Bangladesh in December 2022. He retires with an impressive record of 10,867 runs from 269 matches, including 24 centuries and 44 half-centuries.
In a heartfelt video message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Dhawan expressed his gratitude to his fans and cricket associations for their unwavering support throughout his career.
“As I close this chapter of my cricketing journey, I carry with me countless memories and gratitude. Thank you for the love and support! Jai Hind!” Dhawan wrote on his X handle.
Reflecting on his journey, Dhawan shared, “I am standing at a point where when I look back, I only see memories, and a new life when I look forward. It was always my dream to play for India, and I got to live it. I am thankful to many people for that—my family, my childhood coaches, and my teammates over the years. Cricket gave me a new family, fame, and love. But to move forward, you have to turn the page.”
“I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket. As I bid farewell to my cricketing journey, I have peace in my heart. I played a lot for my country. I tell myself not to be upset about not playing for India again, but to be happy that I had the opportunity to do so,” he said.
