Bhubaneswar: BPI Airport in Bhubaneswar today successfully conducted Full-Scale Emergency Exercise-2025, designed to Ensure the adequacy of the plan to cope with different types of airport’s emergency, preparedness and multi-agency coordination in the event of a major incident.
The exercise was simulated with a scenario of an arrival A321 type of commercial aircraft carrying 222 passenger board coming reported “fire warning light ON” on Engine No-1 and crash landed inside the airport on its attempt on landing.
This aircraft crash causes fire on multiple location, multiple scattered casualties around 500-meter radius of area.
The well-coordinated response from all the key stakeholders including Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Odisha Fire Service, CISF, State Police, NDRF, Airlines, Ground Handling Agencies, Hospital, Ambulance Service, IMD, DGCA and Airports Authority of India.
Over 200 personnel participated in the live drill, the siren of Crash Fire Tenders, Ambulances and volunteer “victims” in stretchers, temporary tents for first aid medical facilities enhanced the realism and training value of the event.
Prasanna Pradhan, Airport Director at Bhubaneswar, said, “Today’s exercise demonstrated the strength of our partnerships and the high level of readiness across all emergency response teams. Full Scale Emergency Exercises are conducted on every two years and in the interim year one table top exercise is conducted to keep update our emergency preparedness and effectiveness of Airport Emergency Plan (AEP). Feedback, suggestion, shortcomings and learning from the full-scale emergencies will be incorporated in our preparedness.
As an airport operator, we are committed to the safety of our passengers and staff, and exercises like this ensure that we remain vigilant and capable of responding swiftly and effectively in times of crisis.”
Observers from regulatory agencies and aviation safety organizations were present to monitor the drill and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
