Cuttack: In an innovative step towards nurturing young minds and inspiring future leaders, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) is set to launch a unique student engagement programme titled “A Day with the Commissioner.”
Under this initiative, one selected student will get the opportunity to spend an entire working day with the Municipal Commissioner of Cuttack, Kirandeep Kaur Sahota, and closely
observe the functioning of urban governance.
The programme is open to students of Class IX and X from government, private, and aided schools located within the CMC jurisdiction. Interested students will be required to apply through a Google Form available on the official website of Cuttack Municipal Corporation, where detailed guidelines will be provided.
As part of the selection process, applicants will appear for a 50-mark written test, in which they will have to choose one essay topic out of five and write an essay in Odia. The essay should be between 800 and 1000 words and uploaded in PDF format, with the file size not exceeding 1 MB.
In addition, for extracurricular activities, a total of 50 marks across 10 categories will be allotted for participation and achievements, including NCC, Scouts & Guides, NSS, social awareness, sports, science projects or innovations, cultural activities, digital and cyber awareness, disaster management and first aid, cleanliness drives, voter and traffic awareness, and leadership roles in school clubs or committees.
Students will be required to upload relevant certificates, if available, for any of the above categories.
The selected student will spend a full working day with the Municipal Commissioner at her office. During this immersive experience, the student will get first-hand exposure to urban administration and city management, participate in review meetings, and visit key municipal facilities, including sanitation and
waste management plants.
The student will also closely observe how policy decisions are taken and implemented at the city level.
As an IAS officer, Kirandeep Kaur Sahota will also interact personally with the student, offering
guidance and motivation on civil services preparation, leadership, discipline, and public service.
The
programme aims to inspire students to dream big, develop civic responsibility, and understand the role of administration in building a better city.
“A Day with the Commissioner” is envisioned as a transformative experience that will motivate young students to actively engage with governance, develop administrative curiosity, and consider public service as a meaningful career path.
Further details regarding application dates and timelines will be announced on the official website and social media platforms.
