BJP, BJD stage demonstrations

BJP, BJD Lock Horns Over Attack On Union Ministers, Central Neglect

BHUBANESWAR: In an attempt to counter each other, the ruling BJD and opposition BJP on Wednesday staged demonstrations in the state over central neglect and attack on Union Ministers issues.

While BJP held demonstrations at all blocks protesting the attack on Union Ministers, BJD staged a dharna in front of Raj Bhawan demanding hike in minimum support price (MSP) of paddy.

“The BJD leaders attacked the convoy of two Union Ministers and pelted stones smashing the windowpane of their vehicle. It happened in the presence of police. But the government did not take any action against the culprits,” said state BJP president Basant Panda.

BJP national secretary Suresh Pujari said while the government slapped Section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) for throwing eggs at the Chief Minster’s car, it is unfortunate that no such action was initiated against the murderous attack on the Union Ministers.

Meanwhile, the ruling BJD staged a dharna and submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir addressed to President Pranab Mukherjee against central neglect.

“The central government has failed to increase MSP of paddy. It has affected the farming communities. Besides, the centre neglected in various sectors to the state,” said Agriculture Minister Pradip Maharathy.
