Large Vacancies Cripple Odisha Universities

Bhubaneswar: Even though the Odisha government is claiming that it is committed to providing quality education to students, the facts attribute a different story.

While large-scale vacancies in school and colleges have affected the education system in the state, the same situation prevails in the Universities too.

About half of the teaching staff are vacant in seven universities of the state. Out of the total 975 sanctioned teaching staff, 398 are falling vacant.

According to Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi, there are 577 teaching staffs including Professors, Associate Professors and Assistant Professors in the seven Universities.

The Universities are Berhampur University, Fakir Mohan University, North Odisha University, Ravenshaw University, Sambalpur University, Shree Jagannath Sanskrit University and Utkal University.

The minister informed it in the recently concluded monsoon session of state Assembly.

Moreover, the position of non-teaching staffs is also not better. Out of the total 2477 sanctioned posts, only 1381 staff are in the Universities.
