Sambalpur: The Sambalpur police on Sunday arrested eight persons and seized over Rs one crore of old and new denominations from their possession.
The police also seized two guns from their possession.
The police have seized Rs 14,291,000 out of which Rs 8,562,000 is in form of new currencies.
Sambalpur SP Akhileshwar Singh said 85 lakh currencies of new denominations and Rs 24 lakh scrapped currencies were seized from them.
“It would not be possible to get such a large amount of new denominations of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 without the involvement of bank officials. We are interrogating the detained persons and trying to ascertain from where they got the money,” said Singh.
