Bhubaneswar: The Odisha cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal assuring cash incentives to attract more doctors from outside and within the state for four new government medical colleges.
It decided to provide additional financial incentives to the faculties working in new government medical colleges of the state.
Notably, four new medical colleges are coming up in Koraput, Bolangir, Baripada and Balasore districts.
The new government medical colleges have been divided into two zones. Those in KBK and KBK plus areas have been included under Zone-I and the others situated at least 100 km away from the existing government medical colleges, established prior to the year 2017, have been included in Zone-II.
A professor working in Zone-I would get Rs 1.25 lakh incentives apart from salary per month. An associate professor would receive Rs 1 lakh incentive and an assistant professor would get Rs 50,000 incentive per month, said Health Minister Pratap Jena.
A professor working in Zone-II medical colleges would get Rs 35,000 incentives apart from salary per month. An associate professor would get Rs 25,000 and assistant professor Rs 15,000 incentives per month.
All doctors belonging to the preclinical and para-clinical disciplines would get additional incentives of Rs 20,000 per month in addition to their monthly salary.
At present, this will involve a financial burden of Rs 19.73 crores per annum from the state budget for four new medical colleges.
