351 technical students arrested for involvement in crimes in Odisha


Bhubaneswar: 351 students, hailing from the different technical institutions, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in various crimes across Odisha in last four years.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, in a written reply, informed the state Assembly that 351 technical students have been arrested since 2014 to till November end this year.

The Chief Minister said the state government has been taking steps for counselling the technical students against such anti-social modus operandi.

As many as 86 technical students were booked in 2014 while 46 in 2015, 96 in 2016. The number has gone up to 123 by November 2017.

As many as 79 students pursuing technical courses in capital city Bhubaneswar were booked for criminal activities in 2014, while 41 students were arrested in 2015, and 67 in 2016.

75 students have been booked till November 30, 2017, said the Chief Minister.

On the other hand, Cuttack city has reported only three such incidents in last four years. While no such cases were reported in 2014 and 2015, only one student has been registered in 2016 and two until November 2017.

While Dhenkanal district has awfully added to its tally 37 such cases till November end this year, a single case has been booked in 2016. No such cases booked in 2014 and 2015, said the Chief Minister.

Even though Khorda district has registered no such cases till November, four cases were booked in 2014, nil in 2015 while 25 technical students have been booked for their alleged involvement in criminal activities in 2016.
