Telegram likely to be banned in India


Popular messaging app, Telegram, is facing increasing scrutiny from the Central Government. Telegram is accused of facilitating criminal activities such as extortion and gambling.

According to reports, the Modi governemt is initiating a probe against Telegram. Telegram might be banned in India depending on the investigation findings. The messaging application ‘Telegram’ is under investigation by the Central Government, reposrt suggested.

Meanwhile, Telegram issued a statement on social media platform X.

“Telegram abides by EU laws, including the Digital Services Act — its moderation is within industry standards and constantly improving,” the post read.

“Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and travels frequently in Europe. It is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner are responsible for abuse of that platform,” said the messaging app.

“Almost a billion users globally use Telegram as means of communication and as a source of vital information. We’re awaiting a prompt resolution of this situation. Telegram is with you all,” it added.
