Odisha provides Rs 5 cr assistance to flood hit Tamil Nadu


BHUBANESWAR: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Arukh on Friday informed the state assembly that the Odisha government has provided Rs 5 crore assistance for relief and rehabilitation work in Tamil Nadu battered by incessant rains.

Arukh said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had provided Rs 5 crore from Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the flood-ravaged Tamil Nadu.

Notably, Patnaik on Wednesday spoke to his Tamil Nadu counterpart J Jayalalithaa and assured all support to expedite the relief and rescue operation in view of the flood.

Meanwhile, a special train has been arranged for the Odia people to reach Odisha and they are expected to arrive at Bhubaneswar on Saturday, Special Relief Commissioner sources said.

Sources added that all Odia people are safe.
