BHUBANESWAR: The capital city of Odisha was the target of terrorists to cause disturbances on the occasion of Republic Day as four suspected terrorists have fled away from a hotel in Bhubaneswar.
Police Commissioner RP Sharma on Tuesday informed that four suspected foreigners staying in a hotel at Master Canteen in Bhubaneswar mysteriously flee before the police raid.
“We had a tip-off about suspicious movement of some persons and a suspected terror attack on Republic day in Bhubaneswar. That’s why we had beefed up the security in the capital city,” said Sharma.
He said the suspected terrorists had fled away after the hotel authority asked them to provide their passports as identification.
Police sources stated that they were from Iraq, where ISIS has unleashed a reign of terror.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage of hotel where unidentified foreigners were staying is being examined.
DGP KB Singh said raids are going on in different parts of the state and in Bhubaneswar to trace out the foreigners.
Sources said the suspected terrorists had come to the hotel at Master Canteen in a Ford Icon car bearing Delhi number, and it was found the registration number of the car was fake.
Meanwhile, security of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s cavalcade has been beefed up after reports of suspected movement of unidentified foreigners.
