KENDRAPADA: Two days after a 33-foot-long sperm whale got washed ashore at the Rushikulya rookery in Odisha’s Ganjam district, the forest personnel of Rajnagar Forest Range in Kendrapada district have stumbled upon a 66- feet long whale washed ashore to the coast.
A forest official on Saturday said that they spotted the dead whale on Friday on the Rajnagar coast.
While there were no such injury marks found on the body of the dead whale, the forest personnel suspected that the whale might have died due to old age and was washed ashore.
”We would autopsy of the dead whale, and then the exact cause of the death can be ascertained,” said Harekrushna Mallick, Ranger of Rajnagar Forest Range.
A couple of dead dolphins were found lying in between Ekakula and Sathabhaya beach two days back.
The dolphins were killed being hit by the deep sea fishing trawlers, he said.
A carcass of a 33-foot-long sperm whale got washed ashore at the Rushikulya rookery in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Wednesday.
The carcass was in a decomposed condition, and intestine had come out as the abdominal sac had burst open.
