Odisha’s Biraja Prasad, Ambassador to Tajikistan, passes away


NEW DELHI: Biraja Prasad, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Tajikistan, passed away on Saturday morning.

“Our deepest condolences to the family of Biraja Prasad, our Ambassador to Tajikistan, who tragically passed away this morning,” External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup tweeted.

“The thoughts and prayers of the Ministry and the diplomatic community are with you at this difficult time,” he stated.

President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of Prasad.

Biraja Prasad, a 1998 batch Indian Foreign Service officer of Odisha, was the youngest IFS officer to be appointed as India’s Ambassador to any country.

He had also worked as Deputy Chief of Mission in Embassy of India at Madrid. In the ministry, Prasad handled works related to India’s bilateral relations with Russian Federation, France, Germany and Spain.
