Naveen announces Rs 1 lakh ex-gratia after five killed in accident


BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced an exgratia of Rs 1 lakh each for the family members of the five deceased, who were killed in an accident involving an ambulance which was on the way from Andhra Pradesh to Odisha.

Patnaik also announced free treatment for the injured persons.

While five persons including two women and a 10-month-old infant died in the accident, as many numbers of people were injured.

They have been admitted to the King George Government Hospital at Visakhapatnam.

The deceased and injured persons hail from Aaruhabruti village under Bhograi block in Balasore district.

Sources said, one person from Balasore had died in a hospital in Hyderabad on Saturday. His family members were carrying his body to Balasore when the ambulance in which were travelling skidded off the road.

The accident took place yesterday at Yalmanchaly about 60 km from Visakhapatnam.

While three persons, including a woman, died on the spot, another woman and a 10-month old child succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, reports said.
