PURI: After Bhubaneswar, holy town Puri on Sunday celebrated its first Raahgiri Day to create awareness about the environmental problems arising out of vehicle movement in the city.
The weekly street event aimed at promoting healthy living by encouraging an active lifestyle is being celebrated from Netaji Subhas Bose square to Puri Konark Development Authority (PKDA) office on VIP Road here.
According to sources, movement of vehicles was restricted from 6:00 am to 9:00 am on the route during the celebration. A range of activities like yoga, cycling, dancing and more was organised by the authorities for the participants. A blueprint to celebrate Raahgiri day in the coming four Sundays has been prepared, sources said.
“This is the first time I am attending the Raahgiri Day celebration. When I came, the atmosphere was very much electrifying. People are busy doing yoga, painting, cycling. I am really enjoying here,” said Ramesh, a participant.
