BERHAMPUR: Unfazed by the protest of Odisha Congress, Odisha police is gradually tightening the noose around the neck of former Congress MLA Ramesh Jena as it all set move CBI to probe the chit fund link of the former MLA.
Police sources said they would request the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the role of the former Sanakhemundi MLA Ramesh Jena in the chit fund scam in the state. Notably, CBI is probing the chit fund scam in the state following the direction of Supreme Court.
Berhampur Police has claimed that they have detected links of the former Congress MLA with Green India Chit Fund Company being probed by the central investigating agency.
It is to be noted that SP Sarthak Sarangi on Friday had claimed that Jena had links with the Green India Chit fund company and seized a luxury vehicle belonging to Jena bearing Haryana registration number allegedly gifted by a chit fund firm.
He also claimed that Jena had acquired land of common people for the chit fund firm forcibly.
However, the Odisha Congress is in no mood to let the police frame its Congress MLA in several criminal cases.
Taking a dig at the Odisha Police, leader of Opposition Narsingha Mishra targeted DGP KB Singh and questioned if Jena is not yet proven guilty, then how did the DGP call him a criminal.
“The Odisha Police had lodged 40 cases against Jena, but he has been acquitted in 35 cases. The other cases are being investigated. So how Jena can be called a criminal?” Mishra questioned.
