BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday extended their greetings on the occasion of Maha Vishuba Sankranti and Odia new year.

“Extend my greetings and best wishes on Maha Vishuba Sankranti and Odia New Year,” said Naveen Patnaik on his microblogging site.
Besides, union ministers Jual Oram, Dharmendra Pradhan, leader of opposition Narasingh Mishra, Congress president Prasad Harichandan and BJP president Basanta Panda also wished the people of Odisha for the new year.
Coincidentally, capital city Bhubaneswar is also celebrating its 68th Foundation Day on Wednesday. It was on April 13, 1948, that first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation stone of the city.
The World renowned German architect and urban planner Otto Koenigsberger architected the city’s first master plan in 1948 for a population of 40 thousand.
