Scientists Develop Mobile App For Farmers

CUTTACK: Scientists at National Rice Research Institute (NRRI) in Cuttack have developed a mobile app that will help farmers get instant information on solutions to all problems related to crops and cultivation.

The mobile app named as ‘Rice Xpert’ was developed by NRRI director AK Nayak and some of his colleagues as a handy tool to advise farmers on crucial cultivation-related issues.

“With many people now using Android-based smartphones, we decided to harness the power of information technology to help farmers solve their crop-related problems. The app will be launched soon,” said Nayak.

Farmers would get complete information regarding various diseases of paddy crops, their cure, pest control measures and ways to manage nutrients in different varieties of soil, said an NRRI scientist.

The app also gives farmers the opportunity to write their problems and upload it along with photographs.

Farmers can write their problems and upload it along with photos of affected crops on the app, Rice Xpert. They can also speak about the issues and upload the recorded file on the app.
