SAMBALPUR: The Sambalpur district administration is all set to introduce a biometric system in the market yards to prevent black marketing during procurement of paddy for the current Rabi season scheduled to begin on May 9.
Besides biometric system, the photograph of each vehicle coming with paddy for sale in the market yards will be taken and sent to the appropriate authorities, informed District Civil Supply Officer (CSO) Pitambar Acharya.
It was decided in the preparatory meeting held under the chairmanship by Sambalpur collector Balwant Singh that 8.82 lakh quintals of paddy would be procured for the current season.
Singh asked the officials to ensure that the farmers sell paddy without any problem.
He also asked the supply department and the market yard officials to provide necessary facilities to the farmers keeping in view to the weather condition.
Market yards need to take measures to protect paddy from rain also as monsoon is expected at any moment after the first week of the June and yards will function till the end of the month, he said.
