Odisha Likely To Receive Rainfall In 24 Hrs


BHUBANESWAR: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted that some places of Odisha may receive rainfall in next 24 hours under the impact of low pressure which has concentrated into a depression.

 “Yesterday’s  well marked low pressure area over North Sri Lanka and adjoining areas of Gulf of Mannar and southwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards, concentrated into a Depression and lay centered at 11.00N and 81.00E, about 1000 kms south-southwest of Gopalpur at 0830 hours IST of today,” said a release of met department Bhubaneswar.

It is likely to move north-northwestwards during next 12 hours and northwards thereafter along north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts. It is likely to intensify into a deep depression during next 48 hours, it added.

Rain or thundershower would occur at  one or two places over Odisha during next 24 hours.

Besides, Distant Cautionary Signal Number one (DC-I) hoisted at Paradeep and Gopalpur Ports in Odisha.

“Gusty surface wind speed from Southerly direction reaching 45 to 50kmph with gausting to 55 kmph would prevail along and off South Odisha Coast and wind speed 35 to 40 KMPH gusting to 45 KMPH from Southwesterly direction along and off North Odisha Coast,” said the release.

The met department has advised the fishermen not to venture into sea in South Odisha Coast but they are advised to be cautious in North Odisha Coast.
