PURI: Two people have been arrested in connection with the alleged operation of sex racket at Nilachakra Lodge in the holy town of Puri, said police on Sunday.
The town police arrested Prakash Chandra Mallick, manager of Nilachakra Lodge, and his associate, Narasingha Mishra, on charges of running a sex racket.
According to police sources, Mallick has admitted that he was running a sex racket in the lodge by sourcing minor girls from various places. He also reportedly informed police about the involvement of a few pimps in the illegal trade.
Sources said the matter came to light after a PCR team of Kumbharpada police spotted a terrified minor girl near Chandan Chakada on Friday morning.
The orphan girl said to be a resident of Boudh district told police that she had come to Bhubaneswar in search of a job. A couple from Nayagarh, who took her along by promising to provide her with a job, engaged her in flesh trade, she told police.
The couple had brought the girl to the pilgrim town on Thursday and asked her to entertain a few customers at Nilachakra Lodge. The girl somehow managed to escape, said sources.
The police had detained Mallick following the complaint of the girl. A case has been registered in this connection and further probe is on, said an official.
