ROURKELA: The chemotherapy treatment facility for cancer patients at Sundargarh District Headquarters Hospital began on Monday.
Sasi Bhusan Satapathy, Chief District Medial Officer (CDMO) of the hospital inaugurated the facility. Doctors administered chemotherapy treatment on a local patient successfully.
Significantly, hundreds of locals and financially poor cancer patients of the district used to suffer without any treatment since they do not have resources to visit outside to avail better treatment.
The district administration had taken the initiative to start chemotherapy treatment at the hospital.
“I am happy that this service has been launched at the district headquarters hospital,” said B.S. Punia, Sudargarh collector.
Notably, a team of doctors from Asian Institute of Oncology, under the leadership of Dr Dinesh Pendakar, a leading Oncologist of the country had come to Sundargarh on April 24 this year. The team had examined as many as seventy cancer patients in a special drive camp on that day.
The team had attended a meeting with Sundargarh Collector BS Punia and senior doctors of the hospital. They had chalked out a plan to start chemotherapy treatment at the hospital.
Accordingly, three staffs of the district hospital had obtained a special training on administration of chemotherapy.
