Centre Approves Rs 200 Crores For SCB Medical College Upgradation

BHUBANESWAR: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved upgradation of SCB medical college and hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack.

The Cabinet approved upgradation of 13 existing government medical colleges under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

The upgradation will be done at a cost of Rs.200 crore for each government medical college. While the centre would provide Rs.120 crore, the concerned state would provide Rs 80 crore.

The SCB Medical College, which has 250 MBBS seats, struggles with limited infrastructure.

The centre has aimed at spending Rs 2,600 crore for the upgradation of the 13 medical colleges, said a PIB release.

It will be completed in the period of 36 months, it added.

Upgradation of existing GMCIs will create tertiary care facilities.  The Tertiary Care Institutions will serve as composite centres for continued professional education, treatment, patient care and multi-skilling of health workers, said the release.

The population in eight states namely Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha, will be benefited where these colleges are located.
